My feet hurt from blisters, but Rome is absolutely incredible.
First we checked into our hotel and went to breakfast at this little cafe down the street. Had my first cappuccino, very strong but equally good! Next, we went up to the Villa de Medici to look over the city, beautiful view. Then, we went down the Spanish stairs, again a beautiful view. Then, we went to the Trevi Fountain and threw our coins in to make a wish. Both the Spanish stairs and the Trevi Fountain area were full of tourists, which is easily understandable. We ate lunch at a place recommended by one of mom's friends. It was delicious.. I, yes, me, the girl who's favorite food is mac n cheese, ate Scorpion Fish. Speaking of going crazy and trying things, yesterday, I tried a scallop, a mussel, and today I tried one of mom's clams. All were good, but they were tiny and fully cooked, so maybe that makes a difference? We also had mango sorbet for dessert, which was delicious!
After lunch, we went to the Pantheon. It was gorgeous on the inside, whereas the outside looked ruin-like but considering it's been preserved since it was built, that's pretty impressive. After we left the Pantheon, we walked to the Piazzo de Navona. It was too early to be as crowded as it normally is, but there were tons of shops and restaurants there. Finally, we walked along the river for a little and saw the Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo. We didn't go in the museum, just took pictures.
We got home around 5 after our all day walk around the city! I think we're going to the Colosseum tomorrow and/or the Vatican! Can't wait to see both of those!
I'm still a little tired since we had to wake up at 4:30 this morning--still jet-lagged/not sleep-recovered from the flights! After dinner tonight I am definitely going straight to bed. We have two more full days here, so we have lots of time to see everything.
So far, the hardest part about being over here, other than missing everyone, is not having my phone. That sounds terrible, but every time I think of something I want to text someone, I have to wait until I get to a computer, and by then I usually forget. I could get a phone here, but it'd be expensive to text internationally, so I guess I'll have to deal..
